NEWS : AN AVALANCHE OF SPIDER-MAN COMICS

18-05-23 | It’s a good month for Spider-Man fans! Hot on the heels of Edge of the Spider-verse and Extreme Venomverse comes a veritable avalanche of unique Spider-Man collections and loose issues. Fans of classic Spider-Man will applaud the arrival of Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage and Spider-Man 2099 Vol.1. The former collects one of the first major story arcs to feature seminal villain Carnage, while the latter bundles the first appearances of Miguel O’Hara, a future incarnation of Spider-Man. Two fine examples of vintage Spider-Man from the early 1990s.

Both collections tie in to Miguel O’Hara and his current series Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis. In it’s fourth issue, released next week, Spider-Man 2099 wages war against Carnage once more. If you prefer traditional Spider-Man, good old Peter Parker is making a guest appearance in Hallows’ Eve, in which Eve has been fighting vintage movie monsters.

To top it all off there’s graphic novel Deadly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, written by B. Earl and (believe it or not) Black Eyes Peas’ rapper Taboo. This gothic and grotesque take on Spider-Man was first released in five loose issues starting in late 2022. Marvel now collects the whole tale in gorgeous paperback form. Be sure not to spend all your pocket money on these Spider-Man goodies, because a mere month from now Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will premiere in theatres worldwide. Overkill? Nah, one can never have to much Spidey …
