12-10-23 | It’s a busy week for the Man of Steel. You’ll find him fighting Godzilla, travelling back to Kingdom Come and celebrating his anniversary … all at the same time! It’s Christmas for Superman fans as DC Comics treats them to countless incredible issues and collections. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #1, World’s Finest #20 and Superman #850 are all out October 17th, closely followed by the Superman For All Seasons trade paperback on October 24th. That’s a lot of Superman to process, so let’s jump right in!
First up is the title which sees Superman fighting Godzilla! How’s that for a pitch?! Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong was one of the big announcements at Comic Con this year. A ludicrous concept, which is bound to be light-hearted fun. Equally questionable in World’s Finest #20. Mark Waid has been persuaded to reintroduce his characters from Kingdom Come, the epic tale he and Alex Ross delivered in 1996. Revisiting Kingdom Come further dilutes the impact of the original classic, but as a way of wrapping up Superman and Batman’s World’s Finest range it might prove interesting.
Superman #7, the 850th issue if all the volumes since 1939 are added up, offers a more traditional take on the Man of Steel. It’s the next step in Superman’s Dawn of DC relaunch, while also paying homage to the past. Wrapping up Superman’s busy week is Superman For All Seasons. This stunning Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale 1998 classic is reprinted in its entirety and expanded upon by including later Superman efforts by this seminal creative team.
