02-03-23 | IDW have announced an exciting new series in their line of Star Trek titles. Star Trek Defiant puts Lt. Commander Worf in the Captain’s chair, supported by an atypical crew consisting of B’Elanna Torres, Data’s android brother Lore and none other than Mr. Spock. A quirky line-up in a dark and edgy tale with a lot of promise. The first issue will be available next week.
‘It will be very exciting to show how badass these guys can be when compared to the more clean-cut crew from the ongoing series’ states Ángel Unzueta, who visualised Chris Cantwell’s script. The story follows Worf and his crew on a mission to defeat a mysterious godlike enemy out in the far reaches of space. Cantwell hints the journey will see four fan favorites rebel against Starfleet regulations in unexpected ways.
The USS Defiant was first introduced in 1994 to broaden the scope of Star Trek Deep Space Nine. The first Federation vessel capable of cloaking became a key part of the Dominion war story arc. The Defiant would have made the perfect ship for Lt. Worf to command in a spin-off series. Michael Dorn, who has portrayed the Klingon since 1987, pitched the concept of a Worf series on several occasions. Thanks to IDW, Worf finally has the spin-off he deserves … be it in comic form. Dorn, incidentally, is currently reappearing as Worf in the final season of Star Trek Picard.
