26-07-23 | Coming soon from Blumhouse Productions is a direct sequel to 1973s Exorcist. Considering it’s the sixth film in the franchise we’re keen to discover how The Exorcist: Believer relates to the earlier films. The theatrical trailer was unveiled today, several months ahead of the original film’s 50th anniversary. It reintroduces us to Ellen Burstyn, who played Linda Blair’s mother way back when. And while general audiences are excited to delve into the dark world of satanism once more, fans are sceptical as to whether this fright fest will live up to the original.
The Exorcist: Believer is directed by David Gordon Green, who previously helmed the recent Halloween trilogy, which turned out to be divisive. The sequel will not only have to live up to previous official Exorcist films, but also compete with countless cheap knock offs which have flooded stores and VOD channels in the past decade. The film will be out in October, with Blumhouse confident enough to line up two potential sequels, one of which is to be titled The Exorcist: Deceiver.
